The Center for Infrastructure Assurance and Security

CIASThe Center for Infrastructure Assurance and Security (CIAS) at The University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) was created in 2001 at UTSA, which is an NSA/DHS designated Center of Academic Excellence in Information Assurance Education and Research (CAE and CAE-R). The CIAS is heavily involved in cybersecurity training and exercises and has conducted cybersecurity exercises at the community, state and sector levels in 15 states across the nation.

The CIAS is also well-known for its efforts in cybersecurity competitions. The CIAS developed and continues to run the National Collegiate Cyber Defense Competition, the largest competition of its kind at the collegiate level. It was also a co-founder of the CyberPatriot National High School Cyber Defense Competition and recently wrote a competition engine that will allow the competition to more effectively conduct virtual competitions for more than a thousand high schools simultaneously.
